How it works

Here’s what happens, from the first look to cleanup.

Your tub stays in place while we create the lower opening. We’ll explain each stage, take care of the cleanup, and leave you with clear care instructions.

Here’s how we’ll take care of the work.

  1. Assess the existing setup

We’ll look at your tub’s material, condition and measurements, check the surrounding area, and talk about what you’d like to change. Photos can help start the conversation; we confirm the fit in person.

  2. Protect and prepare

We’ll agree on where the opening will go and protect the working area before we begin.

  3. Fit the insert

We prepare the opening, then fit and seal the compatible insert according to its manufacturer’s instructions.

  4. Finish and review

We clean up and walk you through the finished work, how to care for the insert, and when your tub will be ready to use.

Plan for installation and the first use.

Installation time: 2–4 hours, single day. We’ll confirm your appointment date with you.

Your installer will explain when the tub is ready to use and how to care for the insert. Read the installation and care FAQs.

Before we arrive, we’ll talk through what needs to be moved and how to keep the route to the bathroom clear. If it’s your only bathroom, let us know so we can discuss access during the work.

Compare the project, not just the label.

Step-through modification

Keeps a suitable existing tub and lowers one section of its side wall. A threshold remains. Bathing capability depends on the insert.

Tub replacement or walk-in tub

Changes the fixture itself. Compare dimensions, entry design, bathing preferences, and the associated plumbing and finish work.

Tub-to-shower or room remodel

Changes the bathing area or the broader room. Discuss the floor, drainage, waterproofing, and access goals in the proposed scope.

When comparing quotes, check the fixture, plumbing, waterproofing, and finish work included in each. Similar project names can cover very different work.

Questions before the work.

Will every tub work?

No. The condition, material, dimensions, and surrounding setup need assessment. See the fit questions.

What will the finished step height be?

The opening depends on the existing tub and compatible insert. Ask for the expected finished measurement in the written scope.

Is this a do-it-yourself guide?

No. This is a description of the service, not instructions for modifying, supporting, or sealing a bathtub.
