Frequently asked questions

Good questions. Straight answers.

Wondering whether your tub will work, if you can still take a bath, or when you can use it again? Start here. We’ve gathered the details to help you feel prepared.

Choosing a tub modification.

What is a bathtub step-through conversion?

A finished insert creates a lower opening in the side wall of a suitable existing bathtub. You may also see this called a tub cut-out or a bathtub access modification. The tub stays in place.

Can I still take a bath?

A permanently open insert is for showering. The Full Access package includes a convertible insert (still take baths). The convertible insert uses a removable center plug for bathing; we review the selected product and fit with you.

How low will the opening be?

We’ll measure your tub and explain the expected finished height before you decide. The tub and chosen insert determine how low the opening can be. A step remains; a level-entry goal needs a different project.

Can an open insert become a convertible insert later?

This requires replacing the open insert with a complete convertible unit. A plug cannot simply be added to the existing open insert.

Tub types, liners and shower doors.

Will my existing bathtub work?

Compatible materials include fiberglass, acrylic, steel and cast iron. The tub’s shape, condition and dimensions still matter. See how we assess the fit.

Can I keep sliding shower doors?

Existing sliding doors must come off and cannot be refitted after this conversion. Plan for a shower curtain.

What if the tub has a fitted liner?

The inserts we use should not be installed over a liner. Tell us about an existing liner when discussing the tub.

Can a clawfoot tub be converted?

Clawfoot tubs have a different wall construction and are not compatible with the inserts we use.

What about garden tubs or tubs with jets?

Garden tubs need individual review. Jetted tubs require professional assessment; a compatible conversion would disable the jets.

Installation and care.

How long does installation take?

2–4 hours, single day. We protect the area, fit the insert, and clean up. Installation time and the waiting period before the first bath or shower are different; see the return-to-use answer below.

When can I use the tub after installation?

For the inserts we use, allow 2 days after installation before using the tub or putting weight on the insert. We’ll go over the timing with you and leave it in writing. The manufacturer’s care sheets set this drying period; follow the return-to-use instructions for the materials installed in your tub.

How do I clean the insert?

Use a gentle household cleaner and avoid abrasive tools or harsh cleansers. Keep the supplied care sheet with your bathroom paperwork.

Does the seal need checking?

The care guidance recommends checking the perimeter caulk before first use and every 6 months afterward. Look for gaps or cracks and ask the installer about concerns.

How do I look after the Convertible plug?

Remove and clean the plug every 1 month. When stored, keep its seals facing up and uncompressed. Ask for a demonstration of the closure and follow the supplied instructions.

How is water kept in the tub?

For a bath with the convertible insert, fit and secure the center plug as its instructions describe. With an open insert, keep water below the opening and close the shower curtain before running the shower.

Can I use the Convertible as a grab bar?

No. The convertible insert is not a grab bar or an assistive device. Discuss separate, appropriately installed support accessories.

The assessment and written agreement.

How much does a step-through conversion cost?

Our packages start at $1,695. See every inclusion on the pricing page. A manufacturer’s kit price covers a different purchase from an installed package. Compare the full written scope and total.

What does the workmanship warranty cover?

Workmanship coverage: 5 years. Review our written scope, exclusions and claim process. Product warranties and unrelated bathroom work have their own terms.

Is the product warranty the same as your workmanship warranty?

They are separate. The current residential kit warranty states 1 year from shipment to the original purchaser, subject to its conditions, professional-installation requirement and registration. Ask for the applicable product warranty alongside our written workmanship terms.

What does the Free Bathroom Safety Check cover?

The Free Bathroom Safety Check looks at the bathroom and puts practical observations in a report. It is not a medical assessment or a whole-home inspection. Free and inexpensive improvements come first, with a tub recommendation only when it fits.

Is a lower opening the same as a safety guarantee?

It reduces the step-over height. It does not eliminate fall or injury risk or replace a clinical assessment. Questions about transfers, assistance, or individual care needs belong with an occupational therapist or another appropriate clinician.

When is payment due?

50% at signing, balance at completion. See payment and funding questions.
